- The department introduced its Master's program in International Relations and Diplomacy in the year 2013.
- In 2018, it expanded to offer PhD courses.
- It was recognized as a department by the Office of the Academic Council, Tribhuvan University in year 2019.
- From 2021 onwards, the department offers an integrated MPhil-PhD program in International Relations. This program allows the top 5 students to be selected for direct PhD admission upon meeting the required criteria and procedures.
